One of the primary ways we see Family Life being created and carried out on the Damascus Road Journey is through the vehicle of Family Life Groups. A Family Life Group is a regular gathering of friends who are led by a few pastorally graced guides who create a place of welcome and belonging, trust and openness for one another and anyone who walks through the door. We imagine these being in host homes where the grace of hospitality is present, meeting together at least twice a month.
These simple family activities will characterize the Family Life Groups.
- Shared Meal
- Communion
- Conversation
- Personal Prayer
Since we come from a variety of family We hope that these gatherings will sponsor quality relationships and offer pastoral care as we learn to adopt a few friends into our hearts as family.
How can we help ensure that our life is staying in a place of authenticity and that our lives really stay on the road to family life, growth and service? One way we see this happening is by intentionally and regularly merging our lives with the lives of two to four other people. We call these micro groups “D-Groups” (Discipleship Groups) and the purpose of the “D-Group” is to promote genuine and meaningful friendships that encourage and challenge us to stay authentic to ourselves, to others and ultimately in our relationship with God.
We believe, that what we are calling the “D-Group” is often the missing link in many attempts at “church growth” programs. You can have all the family groups, weekly classes and Sunday services you want, but if there is no place in our lives where we are allowing a small handful of like-minded friends journey with us in a personal way…we often end up burnt out, bitter or simply alone.
We believe the best encouragement we can give to genuine sustainable growth in each of our lives is to infuse this D-Group concept right into the DNA of everything aspect of what we do at Damascus Road Church………
